The causes of allergies aren’t completely clear, but children are more likely to develop an allergy if there’s a history of allergy in the family. According to Malaysian Allergy Prevention Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals (2014), children with one allergic parent have a 20-40% risk of developing allergies. Where both parents have an allergy, the risk goes up to 60-80%. However, your child can still develop allergies even if there is no family history of allergies.

I know there is a family history of allergies—what should I do?

If you have a family history of allergies, discuss it with your healthcare provider.

What are the symptoms of cow’s milk protein allergy?

The symptoms of cow's milk protein allergy may vary. Fast onset symptoms include hives, wheezing, coughing and vomiting while slow onset symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and colic (Caffarelli et al., 2010).

Will avoiding cow’s milk or foods containing cow’s milk prevent my child from developing allergies?

Avoidance of allergenic food is not encouraged in healthy children. Consult your healthcare provider on the introduction of allergenic foods if your child is at high risk of developing allergies.

How can I prevent my child from developing allergies?

The Malaysian Allergy Prevention Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals (2014), suggests that partially hydrolysed whey formula may reduce risk of atopic dermatitis compared to regular cow’s milk protein formula. It was also suggested to avoid the exposure to tobacco smoke before and after birth to reduce the child’s risk of developing wheezing and asthma.

Minor sensitivities in children like itchiness, rashes, upset tummy and bloating are all early signs of allergies. The right proteins in your child’s diet can help minimise these bodily discomforts. NANKID OPTIPRO HA 3 uses Gentle Protein*, which are cow’s milk proteins broken through a unique NESTLÉ process so that they are 10X smaller. This makes the proteins easy to digest and less likely to trigger allergic reactions or minor sensitivities in children.

With NANKID OPTIPRO HA 3, you can let your child feel the world, free from discomfort.

NANKID OPTIPRO HA 3 contains Partially Hydrolysed Protein, 50mg of DHA & ARA** and 100 million BIFIDUS BL beneficial bacteria**
