Planning for a child can be seemingly difficult for some couples, yet easier for some. There isn’t a magic formula on how to conceive, but there are some tips that can help you increase the chance of pregnancy.

Understand Your Menstruation Cycle

How to conceive? One of the simplest ways to increase the chances of pregnancy is to record your menstrual cycle. First, determine if your menstrual cycle is regular or irregular; whether your period comes around the same number of days or otherwise. With this knowledge, you can identify when you’re ovulating, or when you’re most fertile. Use a regular calendar to record your cycle, or use our Ovulation Calculator to calculate, predict and plan for conception. There are some signs when you are ovulating; an increase in clear, slippery vaginal secretions, an increase in basal body temperature (about less than 0.5°C). You can also use an ovulation predictor kit.

Time Your Conception

Your ovulation cycle will give you on answer of how to conceive. If you are familiar with your ovulation cycle and your fertile days, you can plan to have sex accordingly. Sperm survives in the body for about three to six days, so it doesn’t have to be precise. If you are unsure, you can also plan to have sex regularly. With two to three times a week, you’ll be increasing your chances of conception.

Stay Healthy

A healthy body does help you prepare when you actually conceive. Maintain a healthy weight, exercise, and avoid bad habits such as smoking or alcohol. It will also be good to reduce caffeine intake. If you currently have medical conditions such as sexually transmitted diseases, or even diabetes, be sure that they are under control as you prepare for pregnancy.

Speak with Your Healthcare Professional

As part of your preconception planning, you may also want to see your healthcare professional. With your health history and medical conditions, he or she could identify if there are any issues that may affect your pregnancy. Your healthcare professional can also advice you on your current medication, and important vaccines before pregnancy. If you are curious on how to conceive, or if you need to increase your chances of pregnancy, you can also ask for advice.

When you have conceived, it’s good to have the right nutrition for your pregnancy. Learn about nutrition that supports your pregnancy, here.
