Your child’s ever-increasing play time means that they could be expending more calories than they are consuming. That is when you will notice your child begins to lose weight. It is also a common concern if your child overeats or if they are not getting enough nutrients. At this stage, it is important to fill your child’s diet with a balance of nutritious baby foods as to provide them with the energy they need to play. This is to help your child keep a balanced weight as he or she grows up.

On average, an average boy at 14 months of age should weigh about 10kg, while an average girl should weigh around 9kg. However, each child is unique and may meet average growth standards at their own age. If your child is a little above or under the average weight, it is nothing to be overly concerned about. As long as he or she remains at a balanced weight, and there are no sudden changes, your child should be fine. However you will need to pay attention if there are large differences between your child and the average weight. If so, consult your paediatrician. If your child is overeating baby food or undereating, it may be due to distractions during mealtimes. Try avoiding distractions such as the television or toys when feeding your child. A child who is distracted may not recognise when they are full, leading them to overeat. They may also refuse to eat as they are more interested in playing. Also, avoid sweet food or junk food such as sweets or chips at this stage because these food items may encourage a preference for unhealthy snacks over their normal meals. In short, avoid them to keep your child at a balanced weight.

To ensure that big nutrition is absorbed by your child’s small tummies, you can try CERELAC Infant Cereals for 12 months which is specially formulated using CHE (Cereals Hydrolysed Enzymatically) technology. This ensures that carbohydrates such as rice or wheat are broken down to smaller components for ease of digestion. They are also developed with BIFIDUS BL probiotics which helps improve beneficial intestinal microflora in your child’s digestive system and reduce the incidence of diarrhoea.

CERELAC for 12 months contains multigrain with increased taste and texture to help encourage your child’s palate for a wider variety of flavours.

Remember, a balanced diet may help your child to achieve a healthy weight. Avoid overfeeding or underfeeding if your child is slightly overweight or underweight, as this may encourage bad eating habits.

To find the right infant cereal for your child’s age, you can browse on our Products Section to find the variant that your child loves. Add a little variety to your child’s meals with our Recipes, whether it’s for a hearty breakfast, delicious lunch or simple dinner.
